Rick Tubbs, DVM

Tubbs Contract Research Organization / Oakman, AL

I graduated from the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1983.  For two years after that I practiced general veterinary medicine in central Georgia before going to Mississippi State University as a resident/graduate student in swine reproduction.  Upon completing the M.S. degree in 1987 I remained on faculty at MSU doing teaching, service and research in swine medicine and production until early 1991.  In 1991 I moved to the University of Missouri as the swine extension veterinarian in the Commercial Agriculture Program where I was part of an interdisciplinary team that provided advice and education to veterinarians, swine producers and other participants in the pork production chain.  While working at MU I obtained an MBA degree from William Woods University in Fulton, MO.  In late 1996 I left the university to become a partner in Green River Animal Hospital, a 3-person food animal practice in Bowling Green, KY.  While at GRAH, I provided herd health and other consultation and veterinary services to breeding stock and commercial production companies in Kentucky and Tennessee as well as around the country.

In 2011, I left GRAH, and while continuing to provide service to much of the same clientele as before, in partnership with my 3 sons, formed Tubbs Contract Research Organization, a company that provides contract research facilities and services to the animal health industry.  We also own and operate Tubbs Livestock Company, a cow-calf operation in northwest Alabama.

I am board-certified in the American College of Theriogenologists. I am a past president of the American Association of Swine Veterinarians and have been involved in many committees of the AASV.  I served on the National Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners (now the International Council on Veterinary Assessments) from 2004-2013, including a term as chair, and continue to serve on 2 committees for the ICVA (Collaboration Governance and Assessment Development).  I have been a member of the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine Alumni Advisory Council since 2013 and am currently the Chair. I have been an accreditation site visitor for the AVMA Council on Education since 2014. I am a volunteer in the Operation Mainstreet Program for the National Pork Board and in the Swine Veterinarian Advocacy Program for the National Pork Producers Council.
