08 Nov Tennessee Veterinary Medical Association Members named AVMA Delegates
The Tennessee Veterinary Medical Association announced that Susan Moon, DVM, Memphis has been named AVMA Delegate. Joe Ed Conn, DVM, Whites Creek, has been named Alternate AVMA Delegate.
Drs. Moon and Conn serve as a go-between for the AVMA members in Tennessee, representing the state at the national level, and sharing national initiatives with members of the state organization. They are interested in hearing from Tennessee veterinarians with insights, experiences, and creative suggestions that will help them fulfill their roles as Tennessee’s representatives to the AVMA. The AVMA House of Delegates (HOD) is composed of members representing 70 state, territorial and allied veterinary medical groups with a delegate and an alternate delegate from each organization. The HOD sets association policies and elects the seven-member House Advisory Committee, which makes recommendations to both the House and the Board of Directors. The House of Delegates meets twice a year: each summer at AVMA Convention and each winter at the Veterinary Leadership Conference.
Dr. Moon practiced at Brooks Road Animal Hospital throughout her career. A 1984 graduate of Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Moon began working at Brooks Road Animal Hospital in July of 1984 and purchased the practice in 1990. She currently serves as the managing veterinarian at the practice. She is a past president of the Tennessee Veterinary Medical Association and serves as the program chair for the Music City Veterinary Conference. She is a member of the AVMA, the Memphis and Shelby County VMA, and is a trustee for the Tennessee Veterinary Medical Foundation. She is an active member of First Baptist Church of Memphis.
Dr. Joe Ed Conn has practiced small animal medicine and surgery at Belle Meade Animal Hospital since 1996. A Nashville native, he graduated from the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1991, after receiving a B.S. from Auburn in Animal and Dairy Science in 1987. Dr. Conn served on the Executive Board of the Tennessee Veterinary Medical Association for ten years beginning in 2009 (President, 2017), and has served as a part of the Dean’s Advisory Board for the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. A resident of Whites Creek, he has led a veterinary team on medical mission trips to Honduras on several occasions.
