Recently, in the veterinary press and trade magazines, there have been mentions of new companies being launched that will, for a fee, allow pet owners to video chat with a veterinarian about their pet. TVMA has reviewed the available information and wanted to warn our members that participation in such a venture may constitute a violation of the Tennessee Veterinary Practice Act and might expose a participating veterinarian to disciplinary action by the Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners. AVMA leadership made a recommendation that telemedicine be among the topics covered by the new AVMA Practice Advisory Panel.
